Board Minutes
Minutes from Annual meeting held Jan. 20, 2008
The annual meeting of the German Settlement History, Inc was held Jan. 20, 2008. Ten board members and a number of visitors attended the meeting which took place at Liberty School, in the Town of Spirit.
After the secretary and treasurer reports were approved, Sec/Treas Toni Meier reported on the donations received from individuals and families. Board members also recognized the gifts of time and historic items given to the organization. There were a number of favorable comments on the Dec. issue of the "Liberty School News" which is currently sent out to some 350 households. Michael Meier presented plans for a possible steel building to house logging and farming equipment. The plan is for a 40' x 45' shed from Menards design program. Ron Meier suggested that we check with Hixwood Metal LLC in Stanley also and make our decision at the next meeting. Luann Lind has developed a web site, www.germansettlementhistory.org. Board members gave their permission to use photos of themselves on the web site. Toni Meier will check with Price County Tourism to see if they will list our web site on theirs.
A 60' tamarack pole was donated by John Marshall to be used as a flag pole in front of the schoolhouse. We hope to set the flagpole when weather permits. Landscaping and finishing the pathway to "Our Yesterday House" will also continue in the spring. Plans were finalized for a "Logging Day" benefit on Sat. Feb. 16, to raise funds for G.S.H.I. The logging will be done on managed forest land owned by Ron & LaVonne Meier.
The annual barn dance and silent auction was discussed. It will be held May 25th at the Lind Dairy Farm. Details will be decided at the next meeting. There was discussion about the many projects we have going. Michael Meier offered to make a detailed list of the projects and the steps needed to accomplish them so we can do a better job of addressing the projects and make progress on them.
The next board meeting will be held Sat. March 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty School.
Minutes from March 29th, 2008
Ten board members and three visitors were present at the March 29th meeting. Minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved. The Feb. 16th logging day was a great success. There were 18 people who participated in the project. Lance Meier presented the board with a check for a portion of the wood with the remaining check coming direct at a later date. Barn dance planning was next on the agenda. Luann Lind passed out flyers to post for advertising. Committees were set up to cover the different aspects of the dance. It was suggested that silent auction items be brought as early as possible so ID cards and bid sheets can be made up ahead of time. We considered the bid for the new building from Hixwood and Menards. With new information that since this will be a public building it will probably need to be constructed with state approved plans, a motion carried that the new building project be limited to the preparation of the site and access road for 2008. A project list prepared by Michael Meier was reviewed. It was the consensus of the board that the Yesterday house rodent proofing, chinking and additional display items be of the highest priority on our project list. Workdays of April 19th, May 3rd and May 17th were set up. Dawn Meier reported that the video camera is not working. We agreed to continue oral histories even if we need to use a cassette recorder. Michael Meier will look into repair of the camera.
The next board meeting will be held Sun. August 31st at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty School.
